The word I feel gets over used is “love.” That word as lost all natural meaning and instead is basically used as a means of control anymore. I’ll love you so you won‘t leave me and will stay and tolerate my abusive bullshit. I’ve had those words yelled at me more than they were said genuinely. My favorite is when it’s immediately followed by a “but.” Strings always seem to be attached to the “love” that finds me.

Maybe it’s because that’s what I grew up with. “I love you, but only under these conditions.” “I love you, but only as long as you do what I say.” “I love you, but only as long as you live your life according to my ideals and beliefs.” “I love you, but only as long as you don’t talk to much.” “I say I love you, but I really can’t be bothered to listen to your medical issues.”

“Love” and “sorry”. That’s another one that is over used and has lost all true meaning. Empty apologies and vapid love abound…
